I am a tan woman!

Our trip to Mexico went off without much of a hitch. Left quite early Wednesday morning. Four hour in flight panic attack. Came back Sunday night. 7+ hour in flight and layover panic attack. It was bad bad.

Anyhoot, the Yucatan is recovering quite nicely from Wilma, except for all of the down and broken trees, and for the fact that apparently only 4 of the 19 Cancun strip hotels are open. All last week I was recovering from Bronchitus so I needed afternoon siestas. And the ride from the airport to the hotel on the first day almost killed me. That's overexaggerating. Actually, it almost made me wretch all over the van. Topes. They'll get you every time. The first day was full of napping, eating, drinking and beach relaxing. The hotel grounds were pretty nice. Beds were too firm, showers too full of bugs. These are things you can get over though. The beach was gorgeous.

First day woke up quite early to make day trip reservations with our representative. We chose Chichen Itza and Xcaret. All of Thursday was spent lounging. Oh, and eating like six full meals with dessert. Delish! Nightlife at the resort was pretty boring though. They were repairing their club and we didn't feel much like venturing out into the neighborhood.

Chichen Itza was fabulous. There was overcast on Friday and windy and kinda chilly (for Mexico). So we didn't really mind all of the walking and standing around outside. It was the best type of weather for our archeological expedition. I love seeing things I've read about in history books. Blows my tiny little mind. It was wierd, they allowed tons of little street vendors into the park to hawk their shit. The grounds would have been so peaceful and serene if not for the fact that there was hagglin' afoot. Chris got an insane looking hoodie that day (apparently the first in his "hoodies around the world" collection, I'll believe it when I see it.) The bus driver sold beer for $2 a pop. And Mangey unwashed dogs are all the rage.

The next day was Xcaret. Woke up at 8, took our time showering and eating breakfast in the morning. Got to the lobby for our 9:45 pick up. At 10:00 we looked at our pay stub that proudly displayed that our pickup time was in fact 9:05. God Damnit. Ended up paying $20 for a taxi to get to the nice little preserve. It was a nice place. Full of bats, manatees, and well endowed buffalo-like creatures. Sat in a hammock on a cliff. Drank beers. Enjoyed the scenery. Walked over water. It was a good day. However I was expecting a lot more based on the price and brochure. We ended up taking off after a few hours.

The rest of the day was spent enjoying the beach and drinks. I think Saturday I got the most tan. Later that night we finished watching the Pistons get their asses handed to them by the Jazz on Local 4. Local stations in Mexico will blow your mind after a few cocktails lemme tell ya. Went out later that night and played on the rocks a bit.

Definately not as busy as our trip to Chicago. But much more enjoyable and needed. Fantastic way to unwind from a particularly nasty December. Chris is the best to travel with too. Not many people can tolerate my ways. He does so with great poise, and for that me loves him.
